The new health care system...

I wonder what the new health care system will mean for chiropractors in the US? Will we see more or less patients seeking medical care for their ailments? I thought that since more people will have health insurance, it will be more beneficial for chiropractors because more patients will seek medical care if it's partly paid for. What do you think?

Tipping a massage therapist...

A common question of how much and when to tip a massage therapist is commonly asked at a massage parlor. As a general rule, you don't always need to tip for a massage, but it is a good way to express your appreciation for a job well done. Generally speaking, when you get a massage at a spa or similar place, it's appropriate to leave a 15% - 20% tip depending on your experience.

If you receive a massage in a medical facility (similar to a place where you would receive physical therapy), you generally don't need to tip, but it's ok to ask if you think other people do.

Massage therapists are typically paid more than waiters or waitresses (due to experience and educational training) so it's not as critical that tips are made, but I'm sure with anyone you meet in life, it's always nice to get a bonus for a job well done.

Why do I hear a popping sound when the chiropractor adjusts me?

The popping sound that you hear is your body's joints releasing gas that existed prior to the expansion of the joints. Every body has bones. Connecting those bones are ligaments and other soft tissues. As an example, if you've ever seen someone pop their knuckles, they essentially stretch this soft tissue so that a substance inside the joints between the bones releases a gas. The faster the release, the louder the sound.

Is it bad for you?
When done in moderation (like a chiropractor would recommend), getting adjusted is safe and part of a wellness approach to your health.
